The future president of the Oxford Union has been ousted from office after failing a vote of confidence that followed his disputed online comments about Charlie Kirk.
The motion against the student leader achieved the required two-thirds threshold to remove him from office, according to an announcement from the society.
The dispute erupted after the student reportedly posted messages on online platforms that appeared to welcome the death of the American conservative figure, who was shot dead while speaking at a college in Utah.
According to reports, one social media message reportedly read "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an elongated version of the acronym for 'laughing out loud'.
The president-elect is also said to have posted in a messaging group with other members seeming to welcome the incident.
The no-confidence motion took place over the recent days, with outcomes announced on this week.
Society announcements showed that 1,228 ballots were cast supporting removal, while just over five hundred were against the motion.
The announcement confirmed that the president-elect was considered to have stepped down in accordance with the society's regulations.
Voting operations were temporarily halted early on Monday after the returning officer was allegedly subjected to "interference, threats, and inappropriate behavior" from multiple individuals.
In a response, the student claimed that the count had been stopped because election administrators believed "no legitimate and true result could be reached as a result of procedural failures".
His statement categorically refuted that any person acting for George had participated in threatening or obstructive conduct.
The student maintained that significant concerns had been referred to the governing body and that he continued as the elected leader.
His comment added that George was "grateful and honored to have the backing of well in excess of a majority of students at Oxford" who supported a "secure voting process and resist attempts to subvert democracy".
Critics have argued that any failure to remove him would "demonstrate internationally that the Oxford Union has chosen ideology over integrity".
On Friday, Mikey McCoy presented an open letter to the Oxford Union on The Charlie Kirk Show podcast.
The message criticized the union of becoming a place where "presidents of the union publicly celebrate the assassination of a political opponent".
The statement warned that if the student were to keep his position, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every American political speaker who has ever spoken at the society and advise them against future participation".
The Oxford Union had previously criticized the student's remarks after the activist's killing and stated that concerns submitted about him had been forwarded for disciplinary proceedings.
The president-elect had been one of several students to discuss with Kirk at the society in May.
