The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
